Year 2

AUTUMN 2020

Welcome back to school - Autumn 2020

24.7.20

Good morning everybody. This is your last day of home learning and of course your last day of being in Year 2. What a strange year it has been! We have loved teaching you all and we have been so very proud of you all and the way that you have coped with your home learning adventure. Your resilience, dedication and creativity has made us both incredibly proud. It has been a great joy to visit Seesaw each day to look at your work but more importantly to see you and your happy smiling faces. Thank you for the videos and photographs.

So, all that is left to say is, have a great summer, enjoy today and thank you for being a fabulous class and of course for being

HOME LEARNING HEROES!🦸‍♀️🦸🏻‍♂️

Love

Mrs Merrell and Mrs Jennings

Good morning Year 2. We hope that you are all well and getting plenty of exercise and fresh air. We have seen some fantastic portraits posted on Seesaw this week. We hope that you have enjoyed reflecting on your time with us in Year 2 but we are sure that you are very excited about going into Year 3 very soon. Only two more official working days in Year 2!

Have a great day.

Mrs Merrell and Mrs Jennings😀🌈

21.7.20

Good morning Year 2. It was really good to see so many of you yesterday when you came for your final visit to school. We loved chatting with you all. It was also good that you were able to introduce yourselves to Miss Horne and Mr Codd. We hope that you were able to have a look through the books that you have completed in Year 2. We could not believe how much work you have done this year even though things have been very different. Enjoy completing your challenges today.

Have a lovely day.

Mrs Merrell and Mrs Jennings😀 🌈

20.7.20

Good morning Year 2. We have got right to the end of the Summer term and your learning is going to look a little bit different this week. We are looking back at what you have done in Year 2, as well as looking forward to you all moving on up into Year 3! We have given you a booklet of maths activities, and a SPaG booklet and some spelling revision work for your Literacy. There is also a story for you to read about 'The Cautious Caterpillar' with a presentation to work through and a booklet for you to fill in and bring to school in September. Mrs Jennings and Mrs Merrell.

P.S. We can't wait to see you later this afternoon. Please remember to bring a bag as we are going to give you books and some other things to take home with you.

17.7.20

Good morning everybody. I can't believe it is Friday once again. This week has gone by so quickly. We hope that you enjoy your challenges today. Please post pictures to show us what you have been up to. I am really hoping to see some fantastic art work on Seesaw.

We are really looking forward to seeing you on Monday for your final visit. We would like you to bring a carrier bag with you so that you can take home the books that you completed whilst in Year 2.

Have a lovely weekend. See you on Monday!

Mrs Merrell and Mrs Jennings 😀🌈

Good morning everybody. We hope that you are all well. Well done to the engineers amongst you that posted pictures of your fabulous catapults and targets yesterday. You continue to amaze us with your ingenuity and creativity and also your dedication to completing your learning tasks after so many weeks at home. Have a great day.

Mrs Merrell and Mrs Jennings😀 🌈

15.7.20

Good morning everybody. We hope that you are all happy and well. It is another wet and dreary day today but don't let that dampen your spirits. Today is Wednesday the day when we try to focus on our well being. Why not put on your wellies and go outside and jump in some puddles! Have a great day. Enjoy your challenges.

Mrs Merrell and Mrs Jennings

14.7.20

Good morning everybody. It was really good to see you all again yesterday. Both Mrs Jennings and I really enjoyed chatting with you all and catching up with what you have been up to this week. It was really lovely to read a story to you all once again. Have a good day and enjoy completing your challenges.

Mrs Merrell and Mrs Jennings

13.7.20 Good morning Year 2. We hope you are all well and enjoying your learning. We have a new video for you to watch this week and some great STEM learning to go alongside it. You have all done so well with the White Rose maths learning and this week it is continuing with developing your 'telling the time' skills. We are looking forward to seeing you again today for a chat and a quick play. Take care. Mrs Jennings and Mrs Merrell.

Good morning everybody. It's Friday again! This week has gone by so quickly. We only have two weeks left before it is the summer holiday. We hope that you enjoy today's learning tasks. Please let us see what you have been up to. Have a lovely weekend. The weather is set to improve so enjoy spending time in the outdoors. We can't wait to see you all again in school on Monday.

Have fun.

Good morning Year 2. We hope you are all feeling good today and that you are ready for the challenges that we have prepared for you. We have seen some very strong and sturdy bridges made from lego and your paper designs yesterday all looked good. We can't wait to see how you get on today when you have a go at building your own bridges. Have a great day.

Mrs Merrell and Mrs Jennings

8.7.20

Good morning Year 2. Today is Wednesday, the day when we take time out to think about our health and well being. It can be hard to be positive and energised when the weather is so miserable. We had to have wet playtimes all day yesterday and the children in school were desperate to get outside and run around. Let's hope that it is better today but if you are inside why not try some mindfulness doodling. This is when you take time out to doodle on a piece of paper. Take your pencil for a walk around your page. Make circles, zig-zags, shapes or patterns. Once you have covered the whole page you could colour in the shapes that you have made. It is a fantastic way to help you relax. It also helps you to pause for a moment and focus on one task. You might be amazed by what you produce.

We hope that you enjoy your other home learning tasks today.

Have a great day.

Mrs Merrell and Mrs Jennings

7.7.20

Good morning everybody. It was REALLY GOOD to see you again yesterday. We both enjoyed chatting to you all and finding out what you had been doing over the last few weeks. We could not believe how much you had all grown. Some of you are nearly as tall as me! You all look so grown up. We can't wait to do it all again next week.

We hope that you enjoy today's learning challenges. Please keep putting pictures onto Seesaw as we love to see you doing your tasks. Have a great day.

Mrs Merrell and Mrs Jennings

6.7.20 Good morning Year 2. This week's Literacy and STEM learning is all about bridges. We have a video story for you to watch in Literacy as well as information texts showing types of bridges and photos of bridges alongside your practical STEM tasks, so there is plenty to keep you busy. Maths this week moves on to telling the time using analogue clocks and as many of you have been learning to tell the time whilst working at home we know this will give you an opportunity to check out your skills. Have fun with your learning.

Take care. Mrs Jennings and Mrs Merrell.

P.S. We are so very excited about seeing all our Year 2 'Home Learning Superstars' after school today. We have our fingers crossed for some sunshine as we will be meeting with you in our outside spaces.

Happy Friday everybody! This week has gone by in a flash. It was lovely to see so many of you yesterday. We thoroughly enjoyed our Zoom calls with you. We loved seeing your pets, your models, your paintings, your brothers and sisters but most of all we enjoyed seeing you all looking happy and relaxed. We cannot believe how much you have grown and the tooth fairy must be completely exhausted as you've all lost so many teeth!

We hope that you enjoy your learning today. Don't forget to post on Seesaw so that we can see what you have been doing. Have a lovely weekend. We are both really looking forward to seeing you all at school on Monday.

Take care.

Mrs Merrell and Mrs Jennings

Good morning Year 2. We are really looking forward to seeing you all today on Zoom. It will be so lovely to chat to you all and catch up with what you have been up to. We love seeing your photographs and videos on Seesaw but chatting in person will be even better.

Well done to those children who have done some of the virtual sports day challenges. We did a couple of challenges in school today and had great fun.

Have a great day today and see you soon.

Mrs Merrell and Mrs Jennings

1.7.20

Good morning Year 2. We hope that you had a lovely day yesterday. Have you started your virtual sports day challenges yet? Don't worry if you haven't because you have until Friday to complete them. Remember to log your results on the website and show us your pictures on Seesaw. We did some of the Year 1 challenges in school today and we had great fun. The challenges don't take long so you could do more than one each day. I am practising my star jumps tonight ready for the challenge tomorrow!

Have a great day today. Keep working hard. We are really looking forward to our Zoom calls on Thursday.

Mrs Merrell and Mrs Jennings

30.6.20

Good morning Year 2. How are you today? It looks like we are set for a whole week of rain. Let's hope we get a little bit of sunshine too and who knows we may see some rainbows. A big thank you to the children who posted their work on Seesaw yesterday. We are really impressed that you are continuing to work hard. For anyone who has not yet tried to find out how many words you can make out of the word rainbow, the score to beat is 27 words! Don't forget to have a go at the challenges for the Virtual Sports Day. We had a go at doing challenge 1 in school today and we had great fun. If you fancy another creative challenge today why not try the activity below? Please let us see how it turns out by posting your work on Seesaw.

Have a great day.

Rainbow Shaving Cream Marbled Art

29.6.20  Good morning Year 2.  We are learning all about rainbows this week in our Literacy and STEM work. The rainbow appearing in the sky is a sign that the wet weather is over and that sunny weather is on its way, so people see a rainbow as a sign of hope. During this pandemic people have used the symbol of a rainbow as hope for better things to happen in our world. We are sure you have seen rainbow pictures displayed in windows. Perhaps you have one in yours? This week we would like you to find out how rainbows are formed and to make your own rainbows. Have fun!

We are really looking forward to seeing some of you on Zoom chats later in the week. Please reply to us via seesaw so we know who can join us.

Take care. Mrs Jennings and Mrs Merrell.

P.S. Don't forget to join in with the virtual sports day. Mr Codd has put all information about it above the year group stars.

I hope that you all managed to stay cool at home. We saw more great pool shots on Seesaw and we also saw lots of you taking on the physical challenges. We hope that you enjoy your challenges today. You have all worked really hard once again this week. We are looking forward to catching up with you all next week when we do our Zoom calls. Have a lovely weekend.

Don't forget to have a go at the Friday Maths Challenge.

Good morning everybody. We hope that you are all ok and that you enjoyed the sunshine yesterday. Thank you to those of you who posted pictures of your healthy fruit animals. They were amazing. We are also very pleased to see so many of you taking on the Rainbow Games challenges. Keep up the good work today. We know it can be very tricky to concentrate when it is so hot, just do what you can. Have fun testing your frogs. We have attached a certificate for you to award to the best frog jumpers. We have also attached a fabulous photograph that was sent in by Ava. She has a frog in her pond.

Have a great day. Stay safe in the sun. Drink lots of water and maybe have an ice cream or an ice lolly!

Mrs Merrell and Mrs Jennings

24.6.20

Good morning everybody. It is supposed to be a scorching 28 degrees today so please make sure that you have lots to drink and that you wear sun cream if you go outside. I have noticed on Seesaw that lots of you have pools and paddling pools in your gardens, so make sure that you have some fun as well as doing your home learning challenges. Don't forget today is Wednesday, when we think about our health and well being. Why not try the Rainbow Games Challenges if you have not yet done so already? I came across this edible frog when I was researching frogs. I thought it might be fun to set you the challenge of creating a frog or any animal of your choice out of healthy ingredients. Please let us see what you create before eating them.

Have a great day. Stay sun safe and think of us boiling in school😅

Mrs Merrell and Mrs Jennings

Good morning year 2. How are you today? We hope that you enjoyed the new challenges that you were set yesterday. We were very pleased to see that lots of you had found out the differences between frogs and toads. Your extra challenge for today is to find out why frogs are important. Have fun making your jumping frogs today. Below is a clip of real life frogs jumping. Can your frog jump as well?

Have a great day.

Good morning Year 2. We hope you have had a good weekend and managed to get outside in the sun for some exercise and relaxation. This week is National Schools Sports Week. Obviously this year it's going to look a bit different as things can't happen as they normally would, so we have the 2020 'Rainbow Games'. These are physical 'challenges' for you to do, one challenge for each colour of the rainbow. Just click on the link below to download the challenge cards. We hope you have great fun completing them and look forward to seeing photos of what you have achieved on 'seesaw'. Our Literacy and STEM learning this week is based around a frogs, especially a frog called Tiddalik who is the main character from an Aborigine traditional tale. The White Rose Maths is all about measuring in centimetres and metres and making comparisons about length and mass. You are all doing so well with your Home Learning and we are so very proud of you. The weather has not been very good but we are pleased to see that it hasn't stopped you getting outside. We had a whole day of wet playtimes in school yesterday so we had to stay inside. We hope that you enjoy today's learning tasks. We have one last spider related challenge for you to research today. Why are spiders important?

Have a great day. Make sure that you relax and have fun over the weekend.

Good morning Year 2. We hope that you had a lovely day yesterday. We really enjoyed looking at the pictures of you carrying out your science investigation. Your web pictures were lovely. Have a great day.

17.6.20

Good morning Year 2. We hope that you are all ok. The weather was awful yesterday wasn't it? Outside Chestnut classroom the puddles were so deep that you could have had a paddle! Matthew and Harry got out the skim board that they use in Cornwall and they used it to skim board on the AstroTurf in our back garden! Thankfully they didn't fall over, but they were absolutely wet through by the time they had finished. Let's hope that the weather is a bit more settled today. As it is Wednesday, we have got an activity for you to try that helps you to think about your wellbeing. So, even if there is a storm raging outside you can find a calm place inside.

Thank you for posting pictures once again. We were so excited to see how you are getting on with your tensile testing. Your spider-based challenge for today is to find out how long it takes a spider to spin a web.

Have a great day.

Mrs Merrell and Mrs Jennings

Good morning Year 2. We hope that you had a good day yesterday. We were really impressed with the work that was posted on Seesaw. We are very pleased with the standard of your presentation and handwriting. You are all clearly sticking to our class motto: 'Only the very best will do in Year 2!' You make us very proud.

We hope that you enjoy your tasks today. We are very keen to find out how you get on with your science experiment.

Your extra challenge for today is to name all the continents where you can find spiders.

Have a great day and we look forward to seeing your work.

Good morning Year 2. We hope you have enjoyed the sunny weather this weekend and have managed to get outside to play. Let's hope it continues for a little while, although we have noticed that the forecast is showing some stormy weather on its way.  We have been super impressed with your learning over the last week. You have started back after the holiday break with great attitudes and we are so proud that you are showing such determination to do well. This week in Literacy we have an Afro-Carribean traditional story for you. It is called Anansi and the Moss Covered Rock. Can you guess what type of creature Anansi is? As always we have linked your STEM challenges to the story and this week they are based on making webs. Can you guess what type of creature Anansi is now? Yes you are right, Anansi is a spider. A very tricky spider! Maths this week is all about 2D (flat) and 3D (solid) shapes and pattern making. We hope you have fun with your learning and don't forget to show us what you have been doing on 'seesaw'. Take care Mrs Jennings and Mrs Merrell.

You are all working really hard. We are really impressed with the maths and literacy work that you have posted on Seesaw. The elephants that you have made are amazing. We are looking forward to seeing what you make next. Well done to those of you who found the answer to yesterday's challenge. The national animal of India is the tiger. Today's challenge is to find out what is the national flower of India.

We are back at school now and it feels strange not having you in the classroom with us. We are thinking of you all.

Today is Wednesday so take a few moments to focus on your well-being by trying the activity below.

I have added another photograph from my Indian trip. I gave the children the challenge of creating a boat using water bottles. They had to sail them down a stream. They had to make sure that their boats would float and that they didn't collapse. What do you think? Good luck with your challenge today.

One last challenge, can you find out what is the national animal of India? Post your answer on Seesaw.

Good morning Year 2. We hope that you had a good day yesterday. We are very impressed with the elephants that some of you made. They are fantastic. We hope that you are enjoying the new story that you are reading in Literacy. This week we are basing our learning around India. I love India and visit each year. Unfortunately I was not able to go this year however, I thought it would be nice to share some pictures with you of the village, school and children that I visit when I go there. The school is in the north of India in the foothills of the Himalayas. The mountains are amazing. The children are great fun and they love learning just like you.

We hope that you enjoy today's tasks. Please post some pictures on Seesaw so that we can see what you have been up to.

Good morning Year 2. It is so lovely to be in contact with you again after our 2 week break. It was so very lovely to see lots of you when you joined in with our Year 2 Zoom meetings. We really want to say that we are so very proud of the way you have continued your learning during the lock-down. You truly are 'Year 2 Stay At Home Superheroes'.

For your Literacy learning this week we have a traditional Indian story called 'Lakshmi and the Clever Washerwoman' and the STEM learning is also based around India. The White Rose math's work this week is all about fractions of shapes and fractions of sets of objects.

Thank you once again for posting on Seesaw. We have been incredibly impressed with the catapults that you have made. You are the most amazing and creative engineers. We've added a little clip below showing extremely small catapults. We thought it might make you chuckle.

We won't be setting any new work for you to do at home over the next two weeks. We think that you deserve a rest as you have all worked so hard. Enjoy the fresh air, enjoy your daily walks and get out on your bikes. The most important thing is that you have fun and enjoy being with your family. We will be keeping an eye on Seesaw so if you want to post pictures to let us know what you are up to we would love to see them.

We are both so proud of you all and the great effort that you have made this half term. You are all Home Learning Superheroes!

As it is Mental Health Awareness Week this week alongside your STEM tasks we have planned for you to work at skills which will help you to develop a super 'growth' mind set. The main theme for Mental Health Awareness Week is kindness and it would be amazing if you could think of some acts of kindness that you could do for other people to make them feel happy. Don't forget to be kind to yourself as well; perhaps you could do something this week that really makes you happy? Mrs Warren explains about Mental Health Awareness Week in her 'Thought for the Day' so don't forget to click on her sunflower icon to find out more. Good morning Year 2. First of all we would like to say a great big thank you to you all for putting together your 'Happy' video. It was awesome! It made us smile and also feel a bit emotional but most of all it made us feel really proud. Seeing you all smiling and looking really happy really made our day. We miss you all and we are looking forward to seeing you all again when we are able to do so. In the meantime we hope that you enjoy the tasks that we have set for you today. We enjoyed looking at all your posts on Seesaw yesterday. Thank you to those of you who gave us Morse Code messages. You will be pleased to know that we were able to translate them all. Have a great day. Keep safe.

Good morning Year 2. You did a great job with your learning last week. We especially loved looking at photos of the shoes you made! They were brilliant. We are so proud of you. We know you are all doing the best you can. This week we are basing our learning around the story of L_____ R__ R_____ H___. Can you guess the title?  It is a traditional story. It is mainly set in a wood. The main character is a girl. There is a wolf. Have you guessed it yet? Yes, you are right . .  of course it is Little Red Riding Hood. We are going to be using this story for 2 weeks but it is going to be a little bit different as we have given you a video story to watch rather than a story for you to read. Actually there is a version of the story for you to read in the STEM resources, but remember you can always read other versions of the story online or from your family's book collection. Many of you enjoyed the 'crack the code' spelling work so keeping with that idea your STEM challenge this week is about sending messages using code. Be creative and have fun with your learning. Be steady. Mrs Jennings and Mrs Merrell.

Good morning Year 2. We hope that you are all well. Thank you once again for posting your work on Seesaw. It really makes our day when we see what you have been up to. We are very impressed with your transient art work and some of you could be TV chefs! You were very professional when making your cookery videos. We have seen some fabulous shoes and we are hoping to see some more today.

Tomorrow is VE Day so we will not be setting you any work to do. Let us know if you do anything to celebrate the occasion. The children that live next door to me are making bunting to put on their house.

Have a lovely day and enjoy the sunshine.

Mrs Merrell and Mrs Jennings

Good morning Year 2. Wasn't the weather lovely yesterday? It makes you feel so much better when the sun is shining. We enjoyed reading about what you had been up to. I think my favourite was hearing about one of you doing roly-polys down a hill. What fun!

Today is Wellness Wednesday and the weather forecast is good once again, so we would like you to go out into the fresh air and have a go at some transient art. Transient art is simply art without glue. It is non-permanent art and it can be small or large scale. You can do it by yourself or with somebody else, we will leave it up to you. We have put some ideas below to get your creative juices flowing. Please post some pictures to let us see what you came up with. Have fun!

The weather forecast is good for today so make sure that you get some fresh air and exercise and don't worry if you can't do all the challenges that we set. Just do what you can. We are very proud of you all.

Have a great day.

Good morning Year 2. We hope you've had a good weekend. The work set for you this week in Literacy is based on the well known story of Cinderella. We've given you a copy of the story to read but it would be lovely if you'd  look through your book collection or online for other versions to read as well. You could choose your favourite version and use that one to help you to complete your Literacy work. Your STEM challenge for this week is all about shoes! We can't wait to look at your posts on 'seesaw' to see how you get on. There's a new fun activity for you to do each day for Maths and a challenge to help you improve your speed and accuracy when adding and subtracting with numbers to 20.

Please don't forget to click on the sunflower and read Mrs Warren's thought for the day. Have fun learning. Stay safe. Mrs Jennings and Mrs Merrell.

P.S. Can you guess what type of words your spellings are this week? (Clue: Look at the words we have written in bold.)

Good morning Year 2. How are you today? it was lovely to see that lots of you went out for your daily walk yesterday even though it was raining. I went for a walk with Harry and we enjoyed it even though it was pouring down and we got soaked. We spotted some new things as we were walking. As we walked past Trafford General Hospital we noticed that they had painted the post box blue and they had written a message on the road. This is to say thank you to the NHS and key workers. Me and my family will be clapping or banging pans in our street tonight and I will be wearing my new T shirt.

We hope that you enjoy the challenges that we have set for you to do today. Please post some pictures and videos on 'Seesaw' if you can. We really enjoy seeing what you have been doing.

Have a great day.

Mrs Merrell and Mrs Jennings.

Good morning Year 2. Well yesterday was a wet day but I am delighted to see that so many of you managed to go outside and enjoy the rain rather than the sun. Today it is Wellness Wednesday, the day that we focus on our health and well being. We have attached some mindful colouring sheets for you to try that are based on the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. We hope that you enjoy completing them. Thank you once again for posting pictures and videos onto 'Seesaw'. Your towers are looking very impressive.

We have a family of robins living in our garden shed. We were very excited to discover on Monday that the chicks had hatched. The picture of the chicks is not very clear but we didn't want to disturb them.

Have fun completing today's tasks.

We all know this traditional story and perhaps you have a version of it in your own book collection. We have included our version for you to read but it would be fantastic if you could find others to read as well.

We love the balanced breathing and think it should definitely be used everyday not just on a Wednesday! Perhaps you could do it again today just before you settle down to your learning. Today's Math's challenge asks you to go online to find out about 'minute world records' before seeing if you can set your own record and hopefully you will be ready to make and test your flotation device for today's session of your STEM challenge. Have fun with your tasks today and don't forget to show us what you have been doing. Take care. Mrs Merrell and Mrs Jennings.

Good morning Year 2. I hope that you had a good day yesterday and made the most of Wellness Wednesday. I went for an early morning run and the sun was shining. All that I could hear were the birds singing and my feet tapping on the ground. When I got back I did the exercises that I asked you to do. My colour was yellow because I felt happy and energised. I've kept my picture to remind me of that feeling. I also looked at my flowers again and they are looking good. I hope that you enjoyed looking in your gardens.

We hope that you enjoy todays tasks. We look forward to reading some of your spoonerisms, seeing your photographs and your bags. We really enjoyed seeing your pictures and videos on Seesaw. Please keep sending them to us.

Have a good day and we look forward to seeing what you have been doing.

Mrs Merrell and Mrs Jennings

Good morning Year 2. We hope you enjoyed the film that the teachers  made for you. If you haven't seen it yet, it's at the top of the class pages' section. Can you spot Mrs Bell? She is the teacher that is in disguise.

It is Wellness Wednesday so it is important that we think about our health and well being. Try to make sure that you spend some time outside in the fresh air. The weather is lovely at the moment so make the most of the sunshine. Have a good look around your garden. Can you spot any new flowers that are beginning to appear? I planted some wild flowers last year and they are beginning to flower. Each morning I go outside and count the new flowers and buds. I have three bright pink flowers and ten buds waiting to burst open. If you do not have plants in your garden look around and see what you can spot when you are taking your daily walk.

You could also try the mindful exercises that we have attached. Have a good day. We hope you have fun completing your daily tasks.

Mrs Merrell and Mrs Jenningssmiley
