Language of the Term
At The Willows we are proud of our diversity and the vast number of languages spoken by our families. Every term, we celebrate the languages besides English which are spoken at home by some of our pupils.
Children are introduced to the country where the language is predominately spoken, they are given the opportunity to hear the language being spoken and are encouraged to practise the language themselves. All teachers embrace the selected language of the term and actively encourage the children to say good morning, good afternoon and respond to simple yes/no questions in the given language. The languages chosen will often reflect our school community and will also provide opportunities to explore a wide range of experiences connected to our wider curriculum when possible.
During Spring term we celebrated Spanish. In addition to our Language of the Term Mrs Autelli worked in classes where she read stories in Spanish and taught children key phrases. Children tried a traditional Argentinian treat.
